Broken it :-( Empty Broken it :-(

Post by DesFlurane Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:39 am

Drags today, first run, sh*t burn out, staged, boost to about 5psi, wheelspin, think I hit the limiter, hooked up and went .
    Could
see some smoke from the exhaust, kept into it and went 12.8@117. Got to
the end of the run off and car felt sick, some banging from under the
car, thought I'd bent the tailshaft or something.
Anyway the banging stopped as soon as it started and I drove carefully back to the pits.
    Still
some blue smoke out of the exhaust, popped the bonnet and loud dack,
dack, dack from the engine and some steam from under the turbo heat
    shield.
    Had the car trailered home.
Oil pressure is still good and the oil looks clean.
Waiting for it to cool down before looking at the coolant.
Possibly a head gasket might explain the steam but the dack, dack is concerning.
Dack is a louder, deeper tick, if you know what I mean.
    Wife is not happy.

    Almost certainly a bent rod.
At least it didn't come out of the block.

A mechanic I was talking to last night said it sounds like it was leaned out too much to get the greater horse power. Talk to your last tuner. But you could be lucky and just have a blown headgasket but it depends on what 'Dack Dack' means?? I guess you have checked that out by now though.

Dyno plot looks very good, AFRs richen up as the power increases.
    Broken it :-( Big_tu11
Will get the money sorted first, then get it looked at. Once it gets torn down I want to get it fixed, not find I haven't got enough money. Whatever the problem, will go forged internals. Probably keep the standard turbo, 'cos it's fast enough on the road, but add a NOS system for the track.
Not my daily driver, thank the lord.

Went into Torque Performance last week.
They should have started on it today.
But who knows, at least it's in the shop now.

    Steve's right.
Drag a manual turbo six is no joy.
Track days are where the manual excels.
You'll have to make do with mine. If my wife lets me :-(
