Territory running on NOS
Put 4 new tires on Anna's Territory yesterday and decided to fill them all up with Nitrogen, so now I have pretty green valve caps but cant say I have noticed any difference that others say they have, the Territory feels better to drive but I put that down to having $1200 worth of new rubber and not $20 worth of Nitrogen, but we'll see if the tires stay pumped up for longer and at the end of the day its only $20. And for the record I put on the same make of tires that were on the Territory which still got 32ks out of, so time will tell.

Re: Territory running on NOS
If its anything to go by..we have only ever had to top up once and go in from time to time just to check and have had great results so far.I noticed the difference straight away.
Heres a question...Do suv's territory's weigh more than say an XR8 or XR6?

XR6 / XR6T = approx 1694 Kgs
Territory Ghia Turbo = approx 2150 Kgs

Re: Territory running on NOS
I doubt the weight has anything to do with it, the whole set up of suspension, wheels and tires are all set up for it and I have driven a lot of the 32k that the Territory has done, but like I said, it does feel different but thats because of the new tires plus no one who has put nitrogen in their tires or the tyre shop itself have told Me that it only works on sedan's..............I will take My Ute into town next week and get them to put nitrogen in the tires and I'm betting I wont feel any difference, all I've been told by the so called experts is that Nitrogen is denser than air and it wont leak out of the tyre like air does and it doesn't react to the change in temperature like air does and you wont lose tyre pressure as often, but none of them have told Me that I would notice a difference in performance......30lb or 35lb of pressure whether it's air or nitrogen is still the same isn't it so how can you tell there is a difference in performance?.

Re: Territory running on NOS
When air gets hot it expands which changes the pressure inside the tyre whereas nitrogrgen does not - the pressure stays constant. Also because the molicules are bigger there is less loss with nitrogen than air keeping the tyre pressure constant and even. By doing this it can prolong the life of your tyres by up to 5000kms.

Thought that was the only so called performance difference..............5000km more would be good, so I'll keep everyone posted when the Territory reaches 67k...............Should be around 12 months time.

Before we got the nitrogen put in it seemed ...how can I put this.. sloppy..and on the drive home it seemed smoother.

Re: Territory running on NOS
Did you measure the tyre pressure before and after the Nitrogen?. it may have been low before hand, but as Starling said you don't have any pressure loss when the tyre heats up so I think that's what the performance difference is....Well that and a few more thousand K's, that's a good performance gain in anyone's book.

Re: Territory running on NOS
The tyres all round[if talking to me]were on all even pressure before nitrogen.

Re: Territory running on NOS
The performance felt must just be in the constant pressure then, but I will find out what its like on the Ute tires that have already done a few k's on them and see if I notice the difference.

Re: Territory running on NOS
Cracks me up a bit as the very air we breath is about 78% Nitrogen anyways. 21% Oxygen.
So one might say you get 1/5 th and improvement on air loss??

So does that mean that the ordinary air we put into tyres is about 3/4 nitrogen anyway?
I think the ride could be a bit softer but I can't say I've noticed much difference and the nitrogen still leaked out of the tyres the same as air did in my case. The guys at Beaurepaires reckon that it is a bit of a gimmick with Firestone. I wouldn't bother with it again and I will be getting some new tyres in a couple of weeks and it will be ordinary air going in them this time.

Have, tired it years ago. But hey if you think that you feel a better ride TI2 then by all means stick with it.
And yes Jan most of what makes up the air in your tyres in Nitrogen, with a bit of Oxygen a tad of Argon water vapour and tiny amount of trace droppings from a ferret called Simon most likely

Re: Territory running on NOS
I've had the gas in the tyres for well over a year and a half now. I have only had the pressures re checked twice since. Last time just a couple of weeks ago and that was after about a gap of almost 12 months. 3 were still on 36 and only one had dropped to 34 so I reckon it's pretty good. Can't say there is any difference the the handling though. The tyres are wearing very evenly too.

Re: Territory running on NOS
I have been running Nitrogen for about 9 months. After 6mth i went back to get them checked and they were still at 35lb, hadnt changed at all. i went up to 38, then ride seems better.
I got mine done at Firestone Wairau Rd. Very good service. They didnt charge me for the check and increase in preasure.
I will always use Nitrogen now.

I suppose[and please noone get offended]some people are more sensitive to feeling differences than others. Take that how you like.
