Was going past Stevens Ford yesterday and saw the FG XR6. The brakes went on and I popped in for a look. From the outside I have to say it was very impressive. I really liked the colour - a nice blue - not as dark as you would normally see. I tyhoiught it looked great! Next thing I know Bondy is beside me discussing the finer points. This really isn't a "makeover". It is definitely a brand new model. Then comes the offer to take it for a drive "I'd be silly not to" is the response. So shortly afterwards I am pulling out and heading for the motorway with a full tank of gas! Sitting in the car, it does feel a little more snug than the BA/BF model. But not uncomfortable or claustrophobic. Probably just more designed to fit the driver. there was still plenty of room. The three things that really struck me about the new model are the mixture of the power and the quietness and the technology. It certainly does get up and boogie! I was lucky to have a couple of clear runs at the lights. And it was impressive stuff... It really does feel like you are driving a smaller car. Very positive response to the steering too. Technology wise, the elctronics are very impressive. I had a play with the "command centre display" (centre display) and the instrument display. both have various options for what inmformation you would like to display and are very easy to use. This car had the bluetooth phone and iPod accessories. the iPod plugs in to a lead and sits in a little pouch in the centre storage compartment between the front seats. Your iPod menu comes up on the command centre display and of course plays through the stereo system. The phone accessorie is very clever. Works with any bluetooth capable phone and when the phone rings, it brings the number (caller ID) up on the main display where you can choose to answer or ignore it. if you choose to answer it you can do so by pushing a button on the steering wheel and talking hands free to the caller. Clever stuff. I think if you get the chance to have a drive of one of these you should grab it with both hands. I am picking it will be a very good seller for Ford. Thanks to Bondy and Stevens for the drive. Your support for the club continues to be awesome. If I am ever in the market for a new FG - I know exactly where I will be buying it from!

Re: FG Drive Report
Really nice colour that one too Dougie. Nice metallic flakes through the paint. I like the new front grill on the XR's and the rear bumper has finally been finished off nicely as well. A good package in my view.

Re: FG Drive Report
Took that for a drive the other day and agree wth what you say there Dougie. I liked the snug interior. the selector for the auto was in a closer position to. Only thing I felt were the brakes felt weaker than the BA's. I loved the handling!!! Felt very euro. Also you an now get in the back seats without smashing your head.

Re: FG Drive Report
You guys all have the same impressions as myself with the FG and I will be looking at getting a manual XR6 towards the end of this season.
One thing I read in a car magazine was that Ford will have a "Brand New" Falcon come out in 2010, So is the FG all new or is that just sales talk??.............Only time will tell.

Have to wait and see what colours they have but the XR6 that I took for a drive at Greyford is black and it looks good, but they had a nice blue one at MS Ford too.............Too many choices I say.

Re: FG Drive Report
Yeah mate...........With having the Tezza as well and 91 petrol just hitting $2.07 even us farmers cant afford to run all the tractors and trucks and cars.
But the XR6 is an awesome car and I'd say Ford will sell a shit load more XR6's plus I can get a 6 speed manual.

I'm leaning towards an XR6 but only God knows what I'll buy when I sit down at the dealer and order it but what ever I buy it will be a manual.
