They told me when I picked up the F6 and asked them about running it in to cane it from day one.

When I took it in for a first service 1500kms they asked how I had been driving it - and I said like I was told to - they said they could tell "cause it hadn't burnt any oil"

    Go figure

Have just passed 750km so it will be a while before I can wind it up but I see the cut out rpm figure has gone from 6000 rpm through to 6500 rpm so cant wait to hear that Smile

I wonder how much it effects your warrantee if you don't stick this as I went straight from showroom to pukekohe on ford drive day. How would they ever know anyway.[/quote]

Yeah, I doubt they would ever know but thought I would do as suggested.
It has spent most of the time at the high end of those numbers. Smile

At least if You take the car on a few long distance trips it will run it in a lot sooner too. Picked up the new GT Today. - Page 2 981677

If it lasts longer that will be great as this is my last new car for quite a while.
The long distance trips have been good. As you say the run in is done quicker and with lots of roads that vary you can change gears a lot and wind it up.
Have used a bit more fuel than I normally would have as I have kept up it most of the time but you dont buy a V8 if you want to winge about the cost of filling the thing Cool

Was told the same with the xr6 Turbo I had.
For some reason it burnt a load of oil, and no one was ever sure why but it stopped doing that after 2000kms.
Those Turbo motors sure are quick straight out if the box.

It would be interesting to know, I was told recently that My 302kw's seemed better than someones bolt on 330kw GT.

I reckon the FG has more grunt than the mods I had, and by a reasonable margin.
Some of the after market guys who sell modded exhausts etc might be telling a fib or two as to power outputs etc but the new exhaust on the FG sounds pretty good when you wind it up.
They have given the engine a better breathing set up this time, the gearbox ratios are different and it feels faster in all gears.
Its seems to go around the speed dial quite quickly as well but I wont comment on that here Cool

I got my manual GTP in November and it has just ticked over 5000k. I was told to drive it like I stole it from new and every day I drive it the shift chime comes on. At just under 4000k the engine really loosened up and it revs and sings beautifully. In fact it gets there real fast and you dont realise how quick you are going as the car is very deceptive. I know someone who has a BF GT and BF superpursuit ute, the GT was driven hard from day one and the ute was nana driven and he says the ute feels like a 260 where the GT flies. The feel of the twin throttle bodies opening up and the induction roar and exhaust noise with your foot right up it is beautiful and addictive.

Yeah mate, I was at an FPV drive down at Ruapuna a couple of days ago and they were a lot of FG GT's and they did sound bloody nice when You are standing there on the pit wall along the front straight, they have 1000rpm more to play with over the 290 GT's and it makes them sing a lot nicer, My 302 has only 500rpm more to play with over the 290 and that makes a difference to the sound too.

The Super Pursuit Ute your talking about wouldn't be Sam's one would it?? Shocked

No the ute is based in Auckland but the owner says the 2 vehicles engines are completely different to drive. On my FG the fuel economy is right out the window now but this is due to the way I drive it and man the noise and feel is addictive. I find to get the most out of the car you are still driving it between 3500 - 6500 but its worth it and it revs real easy. I still hit the limiter some times after the chime comes on as its spins so easy. Its going on the dyno shortly for tuning, but I will be curious to see what baseline numbers it puts out as it definitely has more bite now from when it was new. I mate of mine has a BF2 XR6T ute and he drove it the other day and was quite impressed. He commented also on how deceptive the power is and you dont realise how fast you are going until you look at the speedo going round.

One of the users on here (Sam) is in Auckland and has a BF Super Pursuit Ute too mate, so thought You might be talking about him. Smile

Ive just done 1100km in the past 3 days mate and yes You dont know how fast your really going until you look at the speedo, but when the car has been sitting in the shed for a week or two and I've been driving the farm truck on the Territory and then hop into the Cobra, you really feel the speed then. Yeah I know what you mean. When I have my kids I use my Explorer to cart them around in so they don't trash trash this car. Its good to drive the Explorer as its auto and its much nicer in traffic and around the city, but i cant wait to get back in the GTP once there gone. It was a pretty hard decision between the GTP and F6 but i'm glad I got the GTP. The F6 is a weapon but that bonnet bulge and the noise is worth it. Can't wait to get to Pukekohe for a thrash day (if JAF have one).

$125 actually. Includes a BBQ at the end of the day at Souht Auckland car club as well. Plenty of laps, every one is put into similar groups and only about 10 - 15 cars on the track at any one time. Not a race day just a drive day but how fast you go and how many cars you pass is up to you! We have never had a single moan about this day in 5 years except that people have been so tired at the end of the day bacause they have done so many laps. Only had one crash but we wont talk about that and only one car and a fence were involved. And that driver has been demoted to go karts LOL Razz .
Thanks for putting in a good word FJ.

Great thanks for that FJ and 4DPrincess. I'd be keen to put some laps on the GTP around the track. Do you have a confirmed date at this stage.

I have driven around 2500 kms now and it is loosening up nicely. Never "quite" stuck to what I was told and it is really going well and it way fast enough for me but wish I had more time to drive it though Sad
I saw a 5th Anniversary GT as well FJ as we took the car to Christchurch to have the 2 month look over done and it was a nice car, really liked the wheels personally but nowhere near enough for me to pay the extra $ for.
Just love the GT and so glad I went that way.
