Go the portable electric fence way.
I had one for our fish pond, after I installed it for 2 days definatley no cats. No No

All you could hear for those 48 hours was Meow,Meow. :cat: :cat: and then there
    were no Cats cheers cheers

Just set it up about 2 feet around your car.Just make sure you insulate the cable for when you set it up around the Car.

I reckon I could rig a mains powered 12v DC converter thingee too it and not have to worry about batteries etc. And then I can just turn the power off before moving it. Hope nothing falls on it though and causes it to arc against the car Embarassed

All portable fence units have two leads to connect to a 12v battery or you can put 6 D size batteries inside the unit, it has a positive and negative lead with alligator clips so you could just clip them to your cars battery mate.

The D size batteries last about a month when I use them on the farm and the unit is on 24hrs and a fully charged 12v battery will go for as long as you like mate, the fence units have a pulse of energy so you get usually 55 pulses of power a minute kinda like your heart mate, its designed that way so it doesnt stop your heart if you touch the fence, but I had a yearling die yesterday because it got caught up in the electric fence over night and I didn't see it till the morning, so if the cat gets caught up in the fence you should get rid of the little shit too. CSUK-100 Cat Stop
The CatStop keeps cats and dogs out of your gardens, flowergardens, yard or anywhere you don't want them. CatStop is the best CatDeterrent!

    How the CatStop Works:

Place the unit facing the area you want to protect. The built-in motion sensor detects the animal entering the area and emits a piercing, high decibel alarm. It startles the cat and frightens it away. Since the sound is ultrasonic you and your neighbors cannot hear it. It operates for up to nine months on one standard 9 volt battery. Battery life estimate is based upon 4900 activations spread over 245 days at an average of 20 per day.

    Why the CatStop Works:

Unit waits for the animal to be in range.
    Sensor detects the animal.
Ultrasonic sound burst startles the animal.
Animal equates the location with an unpleasant occurrence.
    Animal avoids the location.
    Technical Specifications of CatStop:

    Viewing angle = 80 degrees.
Two horizontal vertical angles 0 and 12 degrees.
Detection range up to 20 feet.
Area of protection is 330 square feet.
    124 dB Output frequency = sweeping from 21 - 25 KHZ

    Thanks Pocket

    Cool, found it: http://www.petcontrol.com.au/CatStop.php

But I do already have two of these, not motion activated though. Mine are always on. The motion activated are supposed to be more effective but I doubt they are as effective as an electric fence though.

These do have the benifit of being less obtrusive looking and more user friendly though.
