Engine Mods
I`m looking getting some more speed out of my BA XR8, what is the most cost effective way to do this? Cold air induction?, Flash tuner? No Turbo jokes either, you know who you are Any ideas much appreciated, cheers :afro:

Re: Engine Mods
I'm not too convinced on the cold air induction stuff mate, and don't bother with big throttle bodies its a waste of $900,
But Flash Tune and full exhaust system is a good place to start mate, and once you start getting more power then more fuel you use so one day you will need bigger injectors, but not yet.

Re: Engine Mods
The real question is how much money are you prepared to spend and are you prepared to lose you drivetrain warranty?
For my BA XR8 I went cold air, full exhaust and tune.
202 rwKw to 235 rwKw.
About $6000.
Was I happy with the result, no.
I now drive a turbo.
YMMV

Simple answer and that is trade it in on a Turbo and thats not a joke. If you want to stay with the V8 you need to do something to give it more power down low - me I'd go full exhaust, Flash Tuner and a Custom/Dyno Tune.
Everything I have read implies that the Throttle Body and Cold Air aren't really necessary unless you are chasing the last few kws.

Re: Engine Mods
I say, get an AUIII 220kW XR8.
Beats the pants of these modern BA XR8s.
my tuppence worth...and that's cheap!!

Re: Engine Mods
Agree there Jedi - my AUII XR8 had a shite load more down low than my BA XR8. Had the AUII in the shed for three months after buying the BA (just didn't get around to selling it). Whenever I drove it I noticed how much more responsive it was.

Re: Engine Mods
A couple of things. Tuppence is and ancient old persons language for a three pence coin. You know, a half of a sixpence in old coins before decimal currency.
I would recommend the stealth/flash unit and the custom tune. It's the best bang for bucks and is what really gets you the kw and torque increases. If you want the sound as well, put on a big bore exhaust, back end only. It'll be way cheaper and won't make much difference to the final outcome, powerwise. Just do it first or you will need to get the tune done again.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
A final bit of advice - Do not get a turbo, you'll just lose your sence of humour and your ears will hurt from the whine.

So I'd be funnier in a V8 - agree everyone would be laughing at me

Re: Engine Mods
Personally we had the growler air induction put in and have had no problems. Improved the gas consumption as well.

Re: Engine Mods
I reckon the cold air induction is worth it. Don't know about the V8s but the SS induction (similar to growler) made another 10kw on the turbo's rwkw power - had it dynoed before and after. And it sounds good too.

Re: Engine Mods
I'm with adrian. Just buy a TS50 - kick the pants off a BA XR8/FPV any day. Seen the evidence. Had two TS50's and never been beaten by a BA/BF yet, track and 1/4 mile (not when Roger is driving anyway ). Now I do know where there is a lovely one for sale BTW.

Re: Engine Mods
Yep, no doubt an F6 or a modded turbo but not a standard one. Mind you there probably is something to be said for the driver, that does give you a . :queen:

Re: Engine Mods
Saw a picture and info on an 8 and it also had twin turbos in it as well. Two in one. Best of both worlds in one car.[I think it was in one of the performance mags that TI reads.

Re: Engine Mods
We know a guy who has just bought an SS H*^/&*n V8 ute - but he is going to fit a turbo to it so it will be about 400kw at the engine.
