Re: fuel pumps
I would say Raelene that if your car is driving smoothly don't worry about it. You will soon know when it starts playing up.

Re: fuel pumps
Would be good to know though. There must be a way to check it without taking it apart.

Re: fuel pumps
Just don't worry about it. I've got my car in the workshop today - the blasted air recirculate button doesn't shut off the outside air and we have to put up with all the car fumes coming in. They think an armature inside it is broken or something. It never ends aye.

Yeah...I know the feeling when talking about fixing cars at moment. What the heck is an armature?

Re: fuel pumps
I found it:
ARMATURE - the rotating part of an electric motor or generator. The moving part of a relay or vibrator.
So your ''vibrator'' needs fixing....lmao..

ARMATURE - the rotating part of an electric motor or generator. The moving part of a relay or vibrator.
ARMATURE AIR GAP - The air space between the stationary and rotating parts of a motor or generator, through which magnetic lines of force pass.
ARMATURE BACK AMPERE TURNS - The magnetic field produced by current flowing in the armature winding, that opposes and reduces the number of magnetic lines of force, produced by the field magnets of a motor or generator.
ARMATURE BAR - Copper bars used in place of wire windings, in large armatures, generators, or motors.
ARMATURE CIRCUIT - The path that the current takes, in flowing through the windings from one brush to another.
ARMATURE COIL - The loop or coil of copper wire, placed on the armature core, and forming part of the winding.
ARMATURE CORE -The laminated iron part of the armature, formed from thin sheets or disks of steel, on which the windings are placed.
ARMATURE CURRENT - The current flowing from the armature of a generator, to the armature of a motor. Not including the current taken by the shunt field.
ARMATURE DEMAGNETIZATION - The reduction in the effective magnetic lines of force, produced by the armature current.
ARMATURE REACTION - The effect, that the magnetic field produced by the current flowing in the armature, has on the magnetic field produced by the field coils.
ARMATURE REGULATING RESISTORS - Are resistors, designed to regulate the speed or torque of a loaded motor, by placing a resistance in the armature or power circuit.
ARMATURE RESISTANCE - The resistance of the wire used in the windings of the armature, measured between the rings or brushes, or from positive to negative terminals.
ARMATURE SLOT -The groove or slot in the armature core, into which the coils or windings are placed.
ARMATURE TESTER - Any device used for locating faults or defects in the armature winding.
ARMATURE VARNISH - Is a liquid put on the field and armature windings, to improve the insulation of the cotton covering on the wires.
ARMATURE WINDING - All of the copper wire placed on the armature, and through which the current flows.

Re: fuel pumps
I've seen the ventilation controls, because they had one taken apart in the workshop once and there are two rubber halves that sort of come together and seal off the air. So something is stopping it from sealing properly.

Yeah I just put a handkerchief over my nose - there are so many stinky old bombs and idiots that won't fix their diesal injectors and all the black smoke comes into the car. I hope they can fix it.

There's a good old saying............If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have learnt over the years that, that is a really good saying when it comes to mechanical stuff.

Sometimes it's kind of like bad things happen... they seem to be attrached to the negative energy..Janianne wrote:Yes Raelene - don't go looking for problems with your car, there are enough that happen anyway.

Re: fuel pumps
So the moral of the story is if your fuel pump is ok you will know?and if it's not you will know.
But I still want to know if your fuel pump is maybe got problems you are not aware about..how does one check?
Now I'm sure there is a clever person out there somewhere that could possibly give me a ''decent'' answer.Oh please!

If there were any problems your engine would be missing or not even starting.

Re: fuel pumps
Raelene, I recall reading in the service manual that Ford recommend replacing the fuel pump every (I think) 75,000k's. If you check your service manual you should find your answer.

Thank you Jeff. That's a brilliant answer. I mean everything wears out eventually so better to keep on to it than not at all.Cheers.
